Our Angel in Heaven
It's been awhile since I've spoken about you or about what happened. It is still hard to believe you're no longer here with us. When I think about you, I smile. I don't get sad because I was blessed to have met someone like you. I've never feared anything in my life ever! I know I shouldn't use your passing as an excuse to be more cautious because we never know what can happen but I know one thing for sure is that nothing is ever promised. Not today. Not tomorrow. The day of your death was the day I changed for the better not just for my children but for myself. I was lost in this world, I was depressed for many reasons. Til this happened. The morning I heard the news about a fisherman in Alvin drowning. I said to myself.. it had to be in my hometown again. Hope it's not someone we know, til I heard your name.

I called into work, took the kids to school and got on the road. As I arrived, I saw the group of people, your family, your wife and kids. I couldn't believe this was happening. I kept saying his hiding in the grass somewhere or maybe he fell asleep. When I seen the Coast Guard arriving I thought the worse. I tried to stay positive I did. When your brother mentioned you had gone under I couldn't help but to cry. It wasn't til the helicopter stopped a few feet from where we were all standing that your body was found. It was a beautiful sunny day, it was hot! Then all of a sudden you see a big cloud just form over the boat that was bringing you back to shore and rain drops came down, only I didn't feel not one. I was sad, I was hurt but at the same time I was determined to give up and let yet another night go by without finding you. You looked so peaceful sleeping.
Your passing changed many of us, it changed me. I stopped drinking, I quit smoking, I cherish life more than anything. You were doing a good deed that day, just like any other day. Why did this happen to you? You were doing what you loved the most, fishing. I'm grateful for the years we had with you. Especially my son. I met you when I was 14 years old you were the best substitute father in my son's Life. Your wife and kids were very blessed to have such a wonderful man. We keep your memory alive. Every time we go to Alvin we stop by to see you. Every time. We love you and we miss you. Rest in Paradise.
Message to everyone always wear your life jackets! Always! Never take them off. Don't go against water you will loose. Safety first! Your life matters.
